Abundant Life School
Students who know who they are & Whose They are
KALS began its life as a small Christian primary school but, after over 30 years in the community, has now grown to be an established Primary, Middle and Secondary school (Years 1-13) offering mainstream education in a wide range of subjects.
We currently offer 20+ subjects to level 3 NCEA (Year 13) which includes core subjects such as English, Physical Education, Mathematics and the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry) as well as more specialist subjects such as Design Technology, Visual Art, Te Reo Maori, Music and ITC.
In addition to this, the school can access a wide range of different senior secondary courses such as Automotive Mechanics, Carpentry, Hospitality, and Barista through external providers and also can offer many other courses as needed through video conferencing and online learning facilities.
The school is proud of its strong cultural flavour and areas such as powhiri, poroporoaki, haka, noho marae, Te Reo Maori, waiata etc are normal throughout the general life of the school
What our alumni Say
One of the many things I have retained from my time at this school is the importance of a strong faith in yourself and the Lord, both of which are important in the life you will lead out after school is finished.
I was also taught about character traits like wisdom and integrity and accountability. I was encouraged to keep God at the centre of my life and it was those building blocks that I used to help me overcome the challenges I’ve faced in life.
One of the main things that I really loved and got from being at this school was the importance of embracing who I was in Christ! Through devotions and the acceptance of what really is a great big family there, I found myself growing in so many ways.
Kaitaia Abundant Life School is different from other schools in that it is required, through the integration agreement between the Proprietors (who own the buildings) and the Ministry of Education, to uphold its Christian Special Character.
The Christian Special Character of the school on a day to day basis can be observed through:
Every Monday morning begins with a full school assembly which focuses on praise and worship (led by a student band), devotional teaching and whanaungatanga.
Devotions classes in every class. These are normally based around a term theme, examples of which include love, courage, excellence, respect, whanaungatanga, knowing God, etc.
All teachers are Christians and teach their subjects in a manner which reflects the glory of God.
For the sake of clarity, we define the term Christian in the following 3 points
Someone who believes that God is the creator of the universe (Genesis 1-6).
Someone who believes that the Bible is God’s inspired word (Hebrews 4:12).
Someone who has accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and saviour and continues in this faith (Romans 10:9).
